About the Author

I want to my stories to give readers different eyes.

I want my readers to come away saying to themselves “I never thought of it that way before.” I’m particularly interested in writing stories that focus on the complex and fluid relationships we have with our natural, social, and political environments. I love to explore those brief interactions that tell a deeper story. I’m an avid people watcher and I get my best story ideas by eavesdropping on snippets of other people’s lives.

I used to have a day job teaching graduate students at the University of Nebraska College of Public Health. Now I sit around in my pajamas half the day writing and reading. I’m a graduate of the Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Nebraska Omaha. I also have a Bachelors of Science in Marketing Management, a Masters of Business Administration, and a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences.

My writing credentials include several academic articles published in peer-reviewed journals as well as short fiction (Sand Hills Literary Magazine, After Dinner Conversation, The Good Life Review) and essays (The Novice Writer).

I was raised in central Nebraska so the prairie is embedded in my soul. I now live in Omaha, Nebraska and spend a fair amount of time wandering around the walking/biking/hiking trails near me. I’m particularly enthralled with the Missouri, Elkhorn, and Platte rivers that surround my home town. One of my favorite things to do with friends is sitting around the fire pit on my patio with a good bottle of wine. I have a short list of authors and poets I want to invite to join me there so I can bask in the glow of their brilliance.
